چکیده

H E amount of selection pressure applied on the phenotypic level to T metric characters can be expressed in terms of the selection differential, defined as the extent of superiority of the individuals which are the parents of the next generation (weighted for the relative number of offspring they produce) over the average of their own generation. For characters showing a discontinuous distribution the measurement of selection pressure can be expressed in terms of selection coefficients, that isJ the relative number of offspring produced by each of the phenotypically classified categories of individuals in the population.

Genetic Diversity and Nutritional Components Evaluation of Bangladeshi Germplasms of Kidney Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.)

Considering the crucial focus on plant developments as high yielding, protein, and disease-resistant varieties, in this study, the genetic diversity and nutritional traits of available kidney bean germplasms found in Bangladesh have been evaluated based on seventeen quantitative and six nutritional traits. Analysis of genotypic, phenotypic variance and covariance showed that higher environmenta...

Heritability of polychotomous characters.

Characters with phenotypic expression consisting of a response in one of several mutually exclusive and exhaustive categories are considered. Formulae relating heritability in the discrete, outward scale to heritability in underlying normal and exponential scales are presented. For the normal case with two response categories, results reduce to the well-known formula for heritability of binary ...

Threshold-linear versus linear-linear analysis of birth weight and calving ease using an animal model: I. Variance component estimation.

Birth weight and calving difficulty were analyzed with Bayesian methodology using univariate linear models, a bivariate linear model, a threshold model for calving difficulty, and a joint threshold-linear model using a probit approach. Field data included 26,006 records of Gelbvieh cattle. Simulated populations were generated using parameters estimated from the field data. The Gibbs sampler was...

Scaling threshold characters.

A simple method of scaling ordered categorical responses having a joint distribution with an underlying normal variable is presented. Scores are developed that maximize heritability of the observed variate and that in the class of scores based on polychotomies: (1) maximize the correlation between score and the underlying genetic value to be predicted, and (2) minimize mean-square prediction er...

Estimation of Combining Ability and Gene Effects in Forage Maize (Zea mays L.) Using Line × Tester Crosses

Abstract Determination of gene effects and combining abilities is a critical stage in maize hybrid breeding. In the present study, 20 S6 lines as female and three S6 inbred lines (K18, K19 and K1264/5-1) as tester were crossed and the resulting  test cross progenies were evaluated in a randomized complete block design with three replications in 2008. During the growing period, several agronomi...
